nice I like it.

Havn't seen a McCain one hmmmm...

I guess our Republican cyclist friends our to busy not riding thier high dolloar road bikes to work

I'm a Republican who rides my "high dollar" bike to work. Unfortunatley I don't see the need to force my opinion down other peoples throat that cycling to work reduces traffic congestion and environmental impacts or that I have a right to the road. Most of the time leading by example is a lot more effective than acting like a bunch of idiots.

Yes you are a republican funny no one called you an idiot did they?

typical and pathetic.

If you going to call names have enough courage to stand behind your comment.

How much did you pay for your bike?

What the heck? So what he/she's a republican. Come on children, lets stop going back and fourth with the labels already. The fact that anonymous is a cyclist is great.

a) Anonymous Republican cyclist above is NOT me.
b) Regardless, it is NOT ok bully (label, intentionally hurt, etc) anyone.
c) If you (plural) are trying to promote cycling, wouldn't it be to your advantage to encourage cycling? and wouldn't that be without regard to politics, religion, nationality, ethnic background, assumed or known mental status, financial status or expenditures, or any other labels? If you wanted to promote cycling, wouldn't it have to be inclusive to be actually defined as "promoting"? And by inclusive, people wanting to promote cycling would have to be TOLERANT of others' choices, even if not supportive.

If cyclists eat their own (figurative cannibalism), then eventually their will be no more cyclists.

I'd have to agree. We can complain about how bad republicans are and but in complaining we also throw the literal stone as well. This apartheid has to stop. There has been many tales in history about how the divided fall, and if the continued rivalry keeps on no progress will be made on the real social problems of this world. I know, you can say, "well it's the republican's fault" but who are we to assign blame for the state of the world? I just think, if democrats want to be seen as the good guys, they have to take the punches well, and sometimes get the beating. The liars and cheaters will always be exposed for what they are. Those liars and cheaters are human beings, dem or republican.

Thats why I'm voting for my balls. I can trust 'em to stick with me.

wow, an argument that doesnt involve me in any manner. nice. jk >: )

some cyclist are quiet, some are outspoken. two wheels dont make cyclist any more alike than two arms. but as we've learned, the world is big enough for both to coexist.

Yeah I could do with this being a bicycle blog instead of a left wing liberal and bicycle blog or whatever. But when reading keep in mind that is the point of this blog, not just to write about bikes. I don't like the non-acceptance.

Dear Red States
We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren’t aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get the Statue of Liberty.
You get Dollywood.
We get Apple, Intel and Microsoft.
You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard.
You get Ole’ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMD’s turn up, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines, 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
Finally, we’re taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

Peace out,
Blue States

I'm the anonymous republican and I apologize if anybody thought that the idiot comment was pointed towards them. The point that I was trying to make is that not everyone is always outspoken about their beliefs.

I choose to "hide" behind the screen name because I don't have an account and do not feel the need to sign up for an account. Also, there are too many people in this world, both political parties, that don't understand that other people are entitled to their political preferences. This country needs both parties so that people with different ideas and ideals are forced to compromise. The constitution is a document full of compromise.

Several of my coworkers have started to ride their bikes again for recreation. Many of them used to be the drivers that we all complain about, the ones that think that bikes don't belong on the road. They have seen how much I enjoy bicycling and started asking questions. During these conversations I was able to educate them on the rights and responsibilities of bicyclist and now they can better see our side of conflict.

Well I took it as you implied we were "acting like a bunch idiots" Better here than on the road I would say!

No problem I am kind of use to being called names or labeled here.

I do think we need other political parties also. I think we need more than two though. Democrats Republicans, Independent, Socialist, Communist etc... Just as long as it remains secular.

I do think that here in Alabama there is very little tolerance towards people who don't follow the more right wing religious beliefs. It is a very imbalanced and non accepting I have found.

Thanks for standing behind your statement though. It's all good.

We are all getting very serious here. Let's lighten up and enjoy the discussion. I know some of you need a hug and to be told your special, sorry that is not going to happen here:)

If liberals are intolerant, are they truly liberal???

Have you been noticing how those who think of themselves as more conservative or Republican are what I consider more liberal in their thinking, since they are the ones espousing tolerance and peace. Ah, the cycle has turned.

Are the Democrats for Democracy or a Republic? Do you really know who you are?

I agree, choosing the anony button is often just convenience, could be safety.

What is funny is that "socialism" is a "bad word". I was listening to some mainstream crappy radio on the way to work today and they were going on and on about how our system is superior to all other economic and social systems and how socialism, or just the idea of socialism is anti-american. Well I'm pro-america but also pro-changing this crappy ass fucking dual party regime as well.

I agree with the previous posts about the whole two party system failing us. I want libertarians in my house and in my pants! I want commies to hold protests and throw maltov coctails at SUV's. I want the green party to lobby for hemp cultivation.

It's all Victor's fault anyway.

I'm with Jim S. Government will not necessarily and unavoidably get larger. My views get confused with wanting to keep the rich richer and in power. I don't want special treatment for the rich or the poor. I'll take more distribution of the wealth if the government is going to grow, though.

Bello Velo said...

In reality though it has grown.I disagree with Jim and he maybe pulling your leg. I own two business' and all tax cuts do is put more money in my pocket. It does not create more jobs.It just trickles down into my pocket.

I know you are confused but when you actually get into the world and work and have to make your way maybe the confusion will subside. Not everyone has a trust fund to protect some people just want to work and feed there kids and send them to school.

Keep in mind the minority are the rich and they are the ones protected here and have the most at stake if things change. Have you ever heard of a bailout of the poor? Corporate welfare ?

clintpatty said...

I didn't say I believe in the trickle down stuff. It has not worked out, and I don't think it would with McCain. Better that the government spend less and tax less, and not favor the rich with tax breaks. Or at least tax the rich more and the middle class less if it is going to grow more. I do not at all support corporate bailouts. I don't think the mortgage crisis would have happened without government facilitation of those businesses. Boards and marketers and such expecting a government bailout if life long indebtedness doesn't work out probably affected policies. Instead they should have expected to loose everything and not be a member of the ruling class anymore if it didn't work out because that's what happens in a free market. If the government was going to be involved in this, the time to do it was earlier with regulation of what mortgages were offered and to whom, not now with a bailout of businesses.

I've worked before. I work now but in academia so it's not the same. I don't have a trust fund. I don't come from a rich family. I don't even come from an upper middle class family.

I was not saying I'm confused about my views, I'm saying they get misinterpreted here. There are plenty of people who are not confused or ignorant and have different views than you. This blog often reminds me of Christians who don't want to hear about different views, such as not wanting evolution taught. Except without the ignorance.

Bello Velo said...

I agree sort of with your first paragraph. However Bush Fannie and Freddie were pushing the ownership society on everyone even those who could not afford it. Interest rates and standards were lowered by the "ruling class" to get this accomplished. So I really don't blame the people who bit off more than they can chew when the government is pushing these policies. I do think they are responsible though.

Second paragraph I stand corrected and I was wrong to imply that.

You are correct about your views being misinterpreted here. I think what is troublesome is a lot of the time an idea or something different is stated here it gets labeled with "left wing, liberal, etc... This sounds like Fox News from the right. I would say from my experience the blogs stands for itself, Alabama however to me is more like your christian analogy. I have found a lot of intolerance and psychologically impaired people here towards any other ideas outside of the right wing christian point of view.

Considering that this state is the majority republican and christian bible belters I would say the ideas here are more open for discourse and argument. Everyday life here is mixed with superstition and distrust. For a place so steeped in christian values it does not really hold up to scrutiny or being disagree with. This is hypocrisy and I hope it gets exposed.

Question: What is the middle class? Do they not work like the working class?

Funny that two pictures could cause such a shit storm.

Good comment though and thanks. Sorry you don't like the blog:)
