Compared to the previous administration and the ones in the 90s and this earlier decade, this one has done a hella lot for bicyclists in HSV. I've commuted here long enough to see it. The share the road signs on top of the bike route numbers and the bike racks for buses-every one of them, not just a couple, are HUGE differences. And for me personally, finally not being hassled AT ALL by the Huntsville police because I'm bicycling legally on the road is a huge relief.
Can they do better? Sure, but they've done a lot better than the almost nothing that was before.

Wait, lets be clear here as far as this. The Share the Road signs were from Bill Kling setting aside 5000.00. Nolen actually got the ball rolling on this.It was done during Loretta Spencer's term. BASC was also created during Spencer's term.

The public pressured the police about harassment and this also began under Spencer's term.

City Bicycle Racks were done during Spencer also.

So I think in reality they would love to take credit and are doing so via the paper, but that is not accurate.

I think the improvements you are seeing is because more and more people are riding.

on another note can you email me, I want to ask you something unrelated.

The things that are having the most positive impacts on me are directly related to individuals acting. Such as the donations from Bill Kling (2x), the bike racks as places we requested either individually or as a group, and a greater diversity of the type rides that are available- CM, V&C, polo, parades, and other "start-up" rides. I hope to see more and more of these regular non-traditional group rides. I would like to see a weekly (or so) evening ride to the Klatch, maybe a monthly dinner ride, even a regular greenway ride that might attract more newbies to cycling. I think potential cyclists often start-out testing the water & these rides attract a diverse group of people and skills.

A big thanks to all who host/lead/arrange rides. And those who ride in them.
