My Veterans Day and Tonite

Trust me it will make sense if you read it.... I hope

Veterans Day - 6:30 pm coming back from star market on foot walking down wellman and listening to ornette colemans "Peace". I take a left and one of the alleys are paved nice I say (since there are no sidewalks left) and decide to walk through it. It is on the way and a nice new addition to my route. so I am carrying my star market bags with my groceries and I think to myself " it would suck if a big german shepard jumped out and bit my ass.... then I look down and there is a shit zu on leash coming at me. another one attached to it's owner is yapping at me. I look up and laugh at them and this guy in his 30's kahki pant a very white shirt, starched pressed he looked like a sausage. Cue Tip haircut. So he says hey and I take my ear buds out and he says" let me ask you a question: where do you live?" I am so shocked by the question that I answer randolph ave......he says ok what address? I said why? he replies there have been a lot of break ins here and..... I said dude do I look like someone who would break in to your house? This fecker freaks out and his eyes roll back in his head and he starts to come at me like the crazed drill sergeant in full metal jacket. he goes"Dude" what do you mean do I thinkyou look like someone who would break in my house! let me tell you something Dude you are not allowed to walk down this alley ever.....then I hear his wife screaming Mike Mike leave him alone..... I am thinking this guy is barking fucking mad..... I just keep walking and going yea yea right and told him he might consider getting a bigger dog that I don't find shit zu's very manly.... he barks out his address and says any time dude anytime"...... So I go back the next day and his pick up truck (go figure) with his yellow ribbon and His Veteran of Desert Shield License plate is there and I coast my bike quickly thorough the alley.... So this is who I must blindly support so I can not walk two blocks from my house by being accosted by this wacko? I would just like to ask is that the freedom he thinks he is fighting for? Also why are people here so afraid of each other? Is this the community and southern hostility you would want to live in?

January 28 th 5:45 pm

Coming down wellman on my bike with the groceries about 3 blocks from my house and a mini van approaches the stop sign not fast and just kind of cruises through and towards me .... I scream hey and he is so close I reach and slap "pow" his back window....he just keeps going and I proceed to follow him we take a left and I see he pulls in and guess what he is commando mike the fascist (from the story above) neighbor on the corner. he is getting out of his van and I pull up and say excuse me did you see me back there? he said no why? I said you almost hit me? he said well I did not see you dont you have a light? I turned my bag and there is my blinking red light? he says well you need a bigger light I said you need to pay attention and maybe get your eyes checked....

So how long will I survive here? what is up with your peops here? Or is it me?

Go ahead and expect the worst so you won't be surprised.

"Southern hospitality" is pretty much an oxymoron. Drivers in Birmingham are the rudest I have ever seen as compared to any other city in the US.

you mean this asshole didn't have the balls to jump and try to kick your ass this time what a bunch wet behind the ears pussies we have in our military service they come home on the weekends to drink beer and try to infect naive girls at the bar with there STDs picked up from frequenting whore houses in third world countries....saying yeah baby I am risking my life in afghanistan and Iraq to protect us from terrorist you want to fuck....they make me sick there nothing but a bunch a unintelligent racist twits the military selects them for the this very reason, they are easily manipulated because they lack the ability to think for themselves

That sucks. There has been increasing crime in 5 Points in the last 2 years, though. I was never harassed on the alleys when I walked or rode my purple 24" mountain bike through them. There will be people like that pretty much everywhere, or at least everywhere in Alabama, though. They are in other parts of Huntsville and in New Hope and Grant, at least.

And not all military are like that. I know people who were loyal to their wife while over there. And they can think for themselves and do, but they chose anyway to sign up for it, and one of the first things they learn is complete and willing obedience to commands, including from President Bush. But that Bush obedience and support did not carry over to their non-military life.

There are some seriously inattentive motorists around here. Yesterday someone accidentally started to pull out in front of me. I had a large ANSI lime vest on riding a large bicycle. I'm one of the most visible cyclists around, and it's not always enough. At least so far they seem to see me from behind. Some still choose to buzz me.

Thanks you all my point being is this douche bag is "fightin for my freedom" and I can not walk or ride down my street. I would prefer them to not fight for my freedom. I have lots of military in my family and lets not glamorize it. they are trained for one thing that is to take life.

As far as safety in 5 points I think they have it backwards here. The likelihood of being robbed when people are out on the streets and the alleys falls way down. When it is dark and no one is on the street it is easier to rob someone. It is a bit spooky here with nobody out and about on the streets. I am from NY and have travel all over and I have never had an issue with anyone. I have also always felt safe in those other places too. Here I can not say that.

I know this is generalization and not everyone is like that. I think as long as your city, society is based on death (military) and destruction (bombs) well it effects us all.

I also think people try to be so nice and not say anything here and that is why underneath the southern hospitality is really a rage and hostility. So now they can take it out on minorities. yes as a cyclist we are a minority along with pedestrians and people of different economic backgrounds.

Yeah "southern hospitality" is a type of passive-aggressive behavior. People act nice when held accountable, then take their anger out on other people when made "anonymous" by the outer shell of an automobile. True colors. Bunch of low-life turds.
