GOP Budget Cuts Take Aim At Educational Opportunities For Women, Bike Paths, And Technology Innovation

Today, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) sent President Obama a proposal with budget cuts that they claim could save taxpayers “in excess of $375 billion.” From their letter to Obama:

– Elimination of the Safe Routes to Schools program. The program “pays for building sidewalks, bike paths and crossing guards.” Not only does the program encourage green community practices, but also aims to increase safety and improve public health.

This is yet another reason why the Republican party is dead.

I don't necessarily agree that transportation and education are part of the purpose of government. But it's certainly established in this country that it's something the government does and will continue to do. So if you're gonna do it, do it right and do it fair. And these aren't appropriate cuts for that.
